C+S Recipe | Kaj Kjellesvig

It takes one cup motion graphic artist, a smidgen of editor, and a sprinkle of creative to make Kaj Kjellesvig.

Get to know Kaj a little better:

Favorite song, album or musical artist?

I’ve always been a big fan of a Norwegian band called Röyksopp. When I was a teen I saw their music video for “Happy Up Here” and it made me want to make cool stuff like that for a living.

What are you most passionate about accomplishing?

I have a post-it note on my monitor— it reads: “What do you want to be known for?” This was the biggest piece of advice I received recently from a friend and client. I want to be known for creating content that changes people’s lives.

Favorite meme?

Also, the YouTube 10-hour loop videos are pretty great.

What piece of advice did you wish you knew sooner?

Take care of yourself because nobody else will. I treated the very beginning of my career like a sprint and got burned out quickly. You have to remember, it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. You need to take care of your body and your mental health so that you don’t get burned out. Now, I’m in a good place and am able to pace myself.

What do you love about working at CRASH+SUES?

I love that it’s a soup of creative people. Previously, I was working a place where the creative process hinged on myself or one other person. At C+S there are so many talented people that contribute to a project. Usually, with a gathering of highly creative individuals there’s usually egos to deal with. Here, there’s no ego. If you don’t have that trust in place, you can’t be honest enough and push each other to be better. It’s very refreshing.
